This module is a first draft. It sets out the scope so it can be reviewed before it is written in full.

Overview

The course deliverables are the real proof of competence: a state-law matrix, a DPA starting point, a threat model, a redaction prototype, a policy and a district checklist. An outside certification adds a credential that people outside your organization recognize. The recommended first one for this path is CompTIA SecAI+, exam CY0-001, which CompTIA launched on February 17, 2026 as the first credential in its Expansion Series. It covers basic AI concepts for cybersecurity, securing AI systems, AI-assisted security operations, and AI governance, risk and compliance.

SecAI+ has no formal prerequisites, but CompTIA describes it as mid-level and recommends three to four years of IT experience and around two years of hands-on security work, with Security+ or similar first. Someone coming from software development rather than security should budget extra study time for the security operations domain. Check CompTIA for the current exam price and objectives before booking.

Beyond SecAI+, the IAPP's Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP) fits people moving toward policy and governance, and the IAPP's CIPP/US covers US privacy law broadly. The Certifications page lists these and others with links to each issuer.

Open questions for the next draft

  • Is SecAI+ the right first credential, or should AIGP come first given the governance focus?
